Dr. Patricia A. Simon knew from the time she was fourteen years old that she wanted to be an orthodontist. Inspired by her orthodontist in the small town of Olean, New York, she set out on her dream of changing lives by changing one smile at a time.
Staying close to home, Dr. Simon attended St. Bonaventure University, graduating summa cum laude with a B.S. in biology. In 1989, she received her DDS from SUNY Buffalo School of Dental Medicine and in 1991 her specialty certification in orthodontics from Boston University. It was in Boston that Dr. Simon realized that significant changes in people's self-esteem were possible when the most severe cases were treated with a combination of orthodontics and oral surgery. Having had this interest piqued, Dr. Simon eventually moved to Dallas to complete a surgical-orthodontic fellowship at UT Southwestern Medical Center, and remained on faculty in the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery until 2003. Although she has officially resigned from her position of ten years, she continues to work closely with the faculty and residents on a volunteer basis, remaining an integral part of the Division.
Dr. Simon has published several articles, and has lectures locally and regionally. The area of greatest interest is the dentist's role in recognizing and reporting child abuse, and she had volunteered on Children's Medical Center's child abuse team during her tenure at UT Southwestern. Her commitment to children is further exemplified by her support of area schools; a contribution she makes not only in recognition of her father's and siblings' work in the field of education, but also as a means of giving back to the Lakewood community.
Recognized by her colleagues as an expert in her field, Dr. Simon is a member of the Dallas County Dental Society, the American Dental Association, the Greater Dallas Association of Orthodontists, the Southwest Society of Orthodontists, and the American Association of Orthodontists. She is board certified by the American Board of Orthodontics. Dr. Simon has been named as one of "Dallas' Best" by D-Magazine, and one of "Texas' Best" by Texas Monthly. She believes her greatest accomplishment is her selection and coaching of a successful, dynamic team at Lakewood Orthodontics, and admits that it is the dedication of her staff that allows her to be her best.
Outside of the office, Dr. Simon enjoys traveling to far away places, spending time with family and friends, and an occasional vacation learning how to wind-surf and fly on the trapeze.
