Meet The Orthodontist
Dr. Simon grew up outside of Buffalo, New York, in the small town of Olean. She was greatly influenced by her orthodontist, and decided on her career path at the age of fourteen. Staying close to home, she received her BS in Biology at St. Bonaventure University. Subsequently, she headed a few hours north to Buffalo and attended the State University of New York at Buffalo, School of Dental Medicine, where she received her DDS in 1989. Still in pursuit of her dream, she went to Boston University for her orthodontic residency, which she completed in 1991. Having gained experience at Boston University in treating patients with facial deformities, she yearned for more training. This led her to UT Southwestern Medical Center for a fellowship in craniofacial and dentofacial abnormalities. She completed the fellowship in 1993, and immediately joined the faculty in the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. While at the university, she treated complex cases, requiring the combination of orthodontics and oral surgery. She remained on faculty until 2003, and continues as a volunteer faculty member. In December 1998, she opened Lakewood Orthodontics. She was drawn to this area, because it reminds her of home more than any part of Dallas.
The uniqueness of Lakewood Orthodontics begins with Dr. Simon’s education and philosophy. Being one of the few orthodontists in the country with formal training in the treatment of skeletal discrepancies, she formulates each patient’s treatment plan keeping the balance of the face in mind. For example, the goals for early treatment of a child are not merely to straighten the teeth, but to provide a healthy environment and foundation for future dental development. Often, less is more, and monitoring the developing child is all that is necessary. Adult patients will find that they are informed regarding their orthodontic options, and aided in making a decision regarding treatment that fits their goals and lifestyle.
Dr. Simon is currently a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, the American Dental Association, and the Dallas County Dental Society. She is board certified by the American Board of Orthodontics and is a certified Invisalign provider. She has been named among the Best Dentists by D Magazine and by Texas Monthly. Dr. Simon is also a supporter of the Lakewood community, regularly sponsoring school events and historic home tours, and is a member of the Lakewood Women in Business.
In her spare time, Dr. Simon likes traveling to exotic places, windsurfing, taking flying trapeze lessons, and spending time with her husband, Kyle, restoring old houses and going to UT football games.
