I have braces for the second time in my life. The kind and fun staff makes it easier. Dr. Simon explained her plans for treatment and I was thrilled to learn that I could have clear brackets! I may talk like Cindy Brady, but I certainly don't look like her! The perks are great, too!

A cute little blonde 4-year-old girl came up to me after I had been in braces for about 6 months and exclaimed in genuine amazement, "You have bracelets on your teeth! How old are you?" One of my greatest hesitancies in going into braces was my age: OLD! When Dr. Patty assured me that she had at least one older patient than me in braces and my treatment would last for not much longer than a year, I was convinced to give it a try.
While I know that children under the age of 18 still comprise the majority of orthodontic patients, many of my adult co-workers have entered the world of braces. Some were in braces as children, but have had better results as adults because of their resolve to be better ortho patients since they are now paying the bill. Successful orthodontic treatment is as much patient cooperation as it is dental skill and knowledge. I think this is where adults have an edge.
My journey wearing "bracelets" is almost over, and I'm glad I did it; the staff at Lakewood has been very caring and competent with which to work toward my goal. I have learned in entering my senior years that dental health plays a big role in my physical health, and I am trying to take every advantage to see me through those years with as few problems as possible.

A Granny in Braces
I've wanted to straighten my teeth all of my adult life, but could never make the commitment. So, for my 30th birthday I decided it was time to look my best! My regular dentist and good friend recommended Dr. Patricia Simon. Dr. Simon's office is very fun and upbeat! Her staff is very personable and always acts like they are glad to see me!
I was surprised to find out it would only take 12 to 18 months to get my teeth straightened. I always worried about how I would look as an adult with braces, but believe it or not, most people cannot tell I have them. Besides, have you seen the number of adults with braces???
My teeth looked dramatically straighter after the first 2 months. My friends and I were impressed. I have not suffered any of the tragic stories I've heard about braces. I haven't needed to use any wax, and I got used to eating with them right away. I look forward to going to the orthodontist every month and I always ask Dr. Simon "So what teeth are we moving this time?"

My experiences at Lakewood Orthodontics are very hard to put in actual words. I am one of the few that decided later in life to straighten my teeth, or so I thought. I was relieved to see just how many people my age and older that had made the same decision as I did later in life. Since I was not that fond of dentists, I assumed that anybody attaching foreign pieces of metal and wire to my teeth had to be avoidable than an actual dentist. Boy was I wrong, I was very comfortable with Dr. Simon and her staff from the initial consultation all the way to where I am now. They took the time to explain all my options in great detail to ensure that I was completely comfortable with my decision. I have only had my braces for approximately 8 months, but I can definitely tell you that I have made the right decision. So look for me in about 6 months, I am sure you will be able to spot me within the crowd, I will be the one smiling from ear to ear showing off my very own movie star smile. I also want to thank Jill for making me laugh every time I come to the office. I truly believe Dr. Simon's staff is a wonderful bonus to each and every visit.

I am probably one of the oldest patients Dr. Simon has. I am 62 years old and have had my braces a year. I never thought it would be possible to have braces but with the encouragement of Rita at Dr. Beadle's office I went to Dr. Simon and here I am today with braces. I can't say enough about Dr. Simon and her staff. They have made me completely comfortable with every aspect of the procedure.
My entire life I hated my teeth. As a child I would not smile with my teeth showing in pictures. Dr. Simon showed me I could have straight teeth even at my age. I have loved every minute of the process and I know the outcome will be everything I have hoped for.
